POINT X CAMP PRESS RELEASE

PAL/SAL kids recently participated in an all day event at Point x Camp, after receiving an exclusive invitation from Point X Camp President Randy Cole. Randy Cole has been a big supporter of the Police and Sheriff's Activities League program, and has donated a new Sony play station and point x camp t-shirts to our group.

So what is Point x Camp? It is one of the largest and best action sports camp on the west coast and its located just 40 minutes south of Hemet . The 280-acre park has been open for 4 years and operates several sessions through out the summer. The sessions include off road motorcycle training at several local racetracks and in taught by former professional racers. BMX riders and skateboarder are a hugh draw at the camp with over 75,000 square feet of various skate ramps and acres of dirt jumps. Free time at Point X Camp includes paintball games, wakeboarding and rope swings on its large lake. Horse backing riding is a new addition to the camp.

Professional skateboarder Danny Way recently broke a world record for the longest air, and then the record for highest air — on the DCs mega ramp at Point X Camp. He then set a new distance record of 65 feet, after dropping down a 49-foot-tall roll-in to launch off a jump ramp and onto a landing ramp; the landing ramp sloped down and into a 20-foot-tall quarter pipe. The following day, Danny backside 360'd the gap, and then stretched out a backside air on the quarter pipe that measured 18 feet, three inches .

During our visit, Danny Way passed by us on his way to practice on the same DCs mega ramp. Other professionals who can be often seen at the camp are Tony Hawk, Ryan Nyquist, Dave Mirra, Mike Metzger, Brian Deegan, Nate Adams, Jeremy McGrath, just to name a few. Many of the X-Games competitors also practice at Point X Camp.

PAL/ SAL brought two groups to the camp that consisted of skaters (scooters too) and BMX riders. When we arrived at the camp, each group immediately took off to the ramps and jumps, after putting on the required safety gear and helmets. We took a lot of photographs and videos during the day that prove PAL/SAL kids have talent. Watch for them during the up coming competitions. Several of our kids have what it takes to become professional skaters and BMXers.

The afternoon barbeque was a big hit with half-pound hot dogs being served along with chips and drinks. Everyone had a great time and came home with the usual bumps and scrapes.

Randy Cole and his wife, Noel, as well as the Point X Camp staff should be commended for providing such a great action sports camp for kids. Their contributions to our program put “miles of smiles” on the faces of our kids and memories they will never forget. Thank you again Randy, Noel and Point x Camp.
